Altair Engineering Announces Collaboration with United Devices to Ensure Interoperability of Products
Users of PBS Professional and HPC Synergy to Benefit.
TROY, Mich., (Sept. 13, 2006)
- Altair Engineering, Inc. announced today that it will support United Devices’ (UD) efforts to integrate Altair’s PBS ProfessionalTM open, standards-based workload management software solution with UD’s HPC SynergyTM product.
Altair and UD said they would cooperate in the areas of integration, testing, marketing and customer support. To better integrate the products, the companies also will provide each other with technical support and product training. Today’s announcement formalizes a process that began nearly a year ago. During that time, United Devices acquired and integrated an industry-leading meta-scheduling product that was the basis for HPC Synergy.
"United Devices is pleased that an industry leader like Altair has embraced HPC Synergy as one of its standards for meta-scheduling," said Jikku Venkat, chief technology officer at UD. "These are two companies that always put their customers’ interests first. This new collaboration is unquestionably a win-win situation for customers, because it ensures compatibility of an industry-leading workload manager with an industry-leading meta-scheduler."
PBS Professional is an open workload management solution for HPC environments. The software maximizes the utilization of computing resources by intelligently scheduling and managing computational workloads in a number of industries. By increasing the efficiency of the hardware and software resources, PBS Professional reduces total cost of ownership and provides true business value to grid computing customers.
"Altair’s strategy for PBS Professional is very open and partner-friendly," said Michael Humphrey, vice president of Altair’s GridWorks business unit. "PBS Professional has been integrated with Globus for several years, and we plan to maintain an open and neutral position relative to meta-scheduling partners. The combination of UD’s meta-scheduler with Altair’s PBS Professional workload management software should benefit mutual customers in life sciences and other industries."
