Altair Engineering, Inc. Partners with eXludus Technologies, Inc. to Integrate PBS Professional with RepliCator Data Provisioning Software
Integration improves performance of applications with large data requirements while optimizing utilization of hardware and software assets.
TROY, Mich., (Sept. 14, 2006)
- Altair Engineering, Inc., a leading global provider of technology and services that strengthen client innovation and decision-making, today announced that it has entered into a partnership with eXludus Technologies, Inc. to integrate PBS Professional workload management system with RepliCator, eXludus’ parallel file serving and data provisioning software. The partnership will provide clients with the ability to intelligently manage computational workloads with large amounts of data in a high-performance cluster computing environment more quickly and efficiently. In addition to accelerating data-centric applications performance, the integration also improves return on investment (ROI) by minimizing unused cycles, because "replicated" data is moved to compute nodes more efficiently.
In deployments where data latency is an issue, organizations may not obtain the maximum hardware utilization rates, and thus may fail to realize the total potential return on their investment. The solution lies in taking a data-activated approach that lets data sources first populate all of the data caches on processing nodes. Then, PBS Professional can intelligently schedule jobs that match the data cached on the available processing node(s). The presence of input at a computing engine triggers processing. This approach transforms process management from a pull-data system into a push-data system, allowing for asynchronous data transfer and eliminating on-demand transfer delays.
"Grid computing environments can suffer a decrease in overall performance due to data-transfer bottlenecks and the constantly varying demands of the network," said Benoît Marchand, founder and CEO of eXludus. "RepliCator removes these data transfer bottlenecks, reducing the need for additional networking infrastructure and improving the ROI of existing resources. PBS Professional enhances performance of our data delivery system by selecting the appropriate, available node(s) for the job. No resource time is wasted, and compute nodes are more productive."
PBS Professional is an open workload management solution for HPC environments. The software maximizes the utilization of computing resources by intelligently scheduling and managing computational workload. By increasing the efficiency of the hardware and software resources, PBS Professional reduces total cost of ownership and provides true business value to grid computing customers in a number of industries.
"The integration of PBS Professional with eXludus’ RepliCator is a natural fit," said Michael Humphrey, vice president of Altair’s PBS GridWorks business unit. "The RepliCator software improves application performance for data-centric applications, while PBS Professional intelligently manages the entire workload to ensure maximum utilization of resources."
