Factory-installed software delivers superior workload management solution for technical computing users in a variety of industries.
TROY, Mich., (Oct. 5, 2006)
- Altair Engineering, Inc., a leading global provider of technology and services that strengthen client innovation and decision-making, today announced that SGI will integrate Altair’s PBS Professional on its new family of Linux® OS-based SGI® Altix® XE clusters powered by Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® processor 5100. Integrating PBS Professional at the factory will maximize the performance of SGI’s hardware in addressing the capacity needs of a variety of key vertical markets and provide increased value to SGI’s customers.
"After carefully evaluating all of the workload management solutions available, SGI determined that PBS Professional is well suited to meet the diverse needs of our broad customer base," said R. Victor Varney, vice president of marketing and product management for SGI. "As part of SGI’s industry-leading end-to-end solution, easily integrated PBS Professional provides a real competitive advantage for SGI customers in managing mixed workloads."
PBS Professional is an open workload management solution for high-performance computing (HPC) environments. The software maximizes the utilization of computing resources by intelligently scheduling and managing computational workload in a number of industries. By increasing the efficiency of the hardware and software resources, PBS Professional reduces total cost of ownership and provides true business value to grid computing customers.
"SGI’s decision to make PBS Professional ‘standard equipment’ on their Altix XE clusters is a natural progression of the excellent partnership we enjoy with SGI," said Michael Humphrey, vice president of Altair’s PBS GridWorks business unit. "PBS Professional has become the preferred workload management solution for SGI Altix systems, because it allows customers to take full advantage of the unique advantages of Altix architectures."
